Oh this is so useful! Iād accidentally discovered it on my phone before (I usually only use desktop), but had gone looking for it since, and couldnāt find it again. I was looking for a āradioā tab at the bottom or in the upper right corner, I didnāt realise I had to go into āPlayingā a collection, in order to be able to access it, so thanks for letting me rediscover it!
And so great that the custom ordering/adding/removing of the sentences, pauses and translations already has been implemented too!
One other feature that might be useful to some could be to allow editing of the speed with which the sentences are read out, if it would be at all possible?
Also, I just checked any I donāt have the radio available offline, not even for my downloaded collections, so this would apparently have to do with my device lacking TTS for my target language? Would anyone here know how I would go about sorting this out? The most useful time for me to use this amazing feature would be when not having internet access.
Iām using Radio for the first time, since I need all the practice I can get at understanding Mandarin and want to avoid the mistake I made when learning French, when I let my reading comprehension way outstrip my aural comprehension and speaking ability.
Iāve set up a collection of Duolingo sentences. Iām able to play normal Listening rounds of that collection using the TTS voices on my Android phone. Radio comes up as an option, but when I try to play Radio, the sentences appear on the screen with stop, forward and back buttons, but no voices play. Is there something else I need to do to get it to work?
Since I couldnāt get that collection to play, I tried Radio for the HSK1 collection during an hour-long drive today and was thrilled to understand quite a bit of it! It was only āI bought a book yesterdayā and the like, but it felt like a big step forward!
I really like the customisation options for Radio, but agree with @sindaco that it would also be great to be able to change the playback speed.
Thanks for this great feature, which will let me put my driving time to good use.
I guess perhaps itās only available for non-custom collections at the moment? Since @Plovdiv mentioned the same:
Sadly I seem to have some sort of bug on my phone where I donāt have any TTS languages installed, except for English, and I canāt seem to download any others, even though it offers a ādownloadā button - I can click it, but nothing happens Iāll have to look more into if thereās another way I could go about installing them.
Clozemaster Radio is a great feature! But I had to disable a few of the English voices that are virtually unintelligible to me, such as the Indian ones.
Hereās a feature request, (@mike): how about integrating Radio with Androidās Digital Wellbeing feature, so that one can listen to Radio while falling asleep, having it turn off automatically after a preset interval?
I assume it might be mainly so you can familiarise yourself with listening to a number of different voices. If you are using a mobile device, these will mainly be all the TTS voices available on your device, which can indeed be quite a lot of them.
@mike I really like the radio feature but I was wondering if you could shorten the length of the pause. Personally I find it too long when all I need is a second or two extra to think about what the sentence means.
For people who like a long pause, they could just use two or three short pauses in a row to still get the same effect.
Thanks, but Iām aware of this. Thatās what I meant by āuse two or three short pauses in a rowā. You would add them in the playback pattern screen.
I want to add a short pause in the playback pattern, but the current one is too long.
Iāve fallen in love with Clozemaster Radio and use it for hours every day. Itās a fantastic tool that fits seamlessly into my daily routine. However, I have some suggestions regarding the selection of sentences and the timing of their playback that I believe could enhance the user experience even further.
Firstly, Iāve noticed that some sentences are too easy for me, and Iād prefer not to hear them repeatedly. It would be incredibly helpful to have an option to exclude sentences that I have mastered from the rotation.
Secondly, there are certain sentences that I find particularly hard and would like to listen to more frequently. The current interval of once every few days or weeks is not sufficient for my needs. Could you consider adding a āshow this sentence more often for a whileā button?
Itās taken me far too long to get acquainted with Clozemaster Radio! I now use it every day in conjunction with āoff lineā and have set it to my favourite sequence. Feel sure my listening has improved too, so thanks Team Mike for Radio Clozemaster!
The app crashes immediately every time I try to use the feature. It worked before, and everything else seems to work as it normally does, even the other listening modes, just not the radio. Anyone else having problems with it right now? I tried it with another language, as well as reinstalling the app, even using it on another device. But none of it seems to work
Edit: Galaxy Tab A tells me ā1 app dropping out, battery usageā. Have deleted all cache etc but fearful of deleting and reloading app as I may lose all my work. I have loads of storage still left. App now in ādeep sleepā, still no good. Any advice from anybody?
@morbrorper Here are some other comments and one from Mike. Seems the problem is widespread, such a shame, it was working perfectly but now drops out just as you describe.
